It’s crazy, but we are nearing the end of 2016 but there is so much music, did you notice? For some reason, I chose to make a little (long) list of albums that really deserve your attention. Hear for yourself and let me know what album did you enjoy so far?
SYSTEM – 9 MONTHS AND IT’S BEST FIVE ALBUMS (ACCORDING TO MYSELF)
J A N U A R Y
★ DAVID BOWIE – BLACKSTAR ★
UK| 25. ALBUM | BOWIE GENRE| ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
FOR FANS OF: music or Iggy Pop I guess
The very beginning as I am sure you remember was touched by great tragedy but also an amazing album. I am talking about one and only DAVID BOWIE and his 20th and final studio album BLACKSTAR. Even before the devastating news of Bowie’s passing, this album touched your very core and deep within you could feel very strong and chilling emotions. Bowie stayed genius and is an absolute definition of the word ICON until the very end.
DAUGHTER – NOT TO DISAPPEAR (read review)
UK| 2. ALBUM | INDIE FOLK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Warpaint
Modern alternative pop or indie with bits of rock, who really knows. Daughter is a band to follow with both haunting and pleasant melodies and their last album is no difference.
THE MUTE GODS – DO NOTHING TILL YOU HERE FROM ME
UK| 1. ALBUM | PROGRESSIVE ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Steven Wilson
2016 as was expected offered amazing debut albums, one of those I think are British The Mute Gods and their first full studio album – Do Nothing Till You Here From me. Now, The Mute Gods are labeled Progressive Rock, It’s sort of a mash between pop/rock but it does have the progressive and post-rock feeling, even though with very much a modern sound. It’s okay I’d say, since pop was the first progressive genre, rooting for a difference. And The Mute Gods offer a mash of a number of sounds which are working quite well for them. Definitely worthy listen. The lyrics on the album are meaningful in their own little space, which is always very pleasant.
SAVAGES – ADORE LIFE
UK| 7. ALBUM | POST-PUNK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Deerhunter
If you ever read this blog you know I am a sucker for rock female artists, there is passion in female singers, especially in punk, which I have always carved. So naturally, I must love this English band called Savages. Their second studio album is just a spot-on mix of the right genres, it has bits of punk (especially in the singing) mixed musically with noise rock and post-rock vibes. It’s an absolutely amazing band you need to check out, and see live!
SIA – THIS IS ACTING
AUSTRALIA| 7. ALBUM | INDIE POP / FUSION| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Florence + The Machine
I am going to slow down a bit for my top five of January albums. Sia is one of the few artists who is considered mainstream I truly admire. Not only she managed to stay hidden, which I am sure she is ecstatic about, she is such an amazing artist. Pop music is very often so much more than what is served on the main channels, maybe that is why the public is often so surprised. Sia is an exceptional artist who combines everything from the past with everything from the present and moves pop music to a direction I very much love hearing. This is Acting is in perfect sync with the music, singing, meaning and emotions. Exactly what you want.

THE JEZABELS – SYNTHIA
AUSTRALIA| 3. ALBUM | INDIE ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: London Grammar
Couple years ago I got introduced to little Australian band called The Jezabels, back then I got their EP called “DARK STORM” this EP was released back in 2010 and it one of the best albums I have ever heard in indie music. Now, The Jezabels maintain their high musical and lyrical standard but I am gonna be brave here and say, the “Dark Storm” is the best thing they’ve ever done. Synthia is little more electronic than the early work but still very enjoyable albums I like coming back to. That electronic is mixed with post-rock feeling, so go for it.
KULA SHAKER – K 2.0
UK| 5. ALBUM | PSYCHEDELIC ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: The Stone Roses
The Same week as The Jezabels came the new album from one of my favorite bands, Kula Shaker. I was waiting so long for another album from this English band and I was not even slightly disappointed. Kula Shaker are so musically curious yet spectacular that their fascination with music from Asian sounds combines brilliantly with typical British, well, brit-rock, always had. I highly recommend not only this new album, that came long six years after “Pilgrim Progress”, but also their previous work.
MAVIS STAPLES – LIVIN’ ON A HIGH NOTE
USA| 15. ALBUM | RHYTHM AND BLUES| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Etta James
Never am I going to skip Mavis Staples album. This lady is just brilliant. She has blues, soul, bits of funk, bits of jazz. She has everything. Her lyrics make you feel good, they make you feel loved, sad and her smooth and always the surprising voice, now that is a just joy. I can’t even pick my favorite album by Mavis Staples, every album delivers with 100% accuracy and I just wish more people knew Mavis Staples, at least in Europe, because she has the quality of music so many people are “missing the old days”. Now, there is plenty of that, you just need to open your mind.
THE 1975 – I LIKE IT WHEN YOU SLEEP, FOR YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL
YET SO UNAWARE OF IT
UK| 2. ALBUM | INDIE | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: The Neighbourhood
Now darlings, you may be tired of hearing about The 1975, since they did become quite a thing. But they deserve every ounce of it. Let’s not lie to ourselves, the United Kingdom has a special algorithm for breeding great and innovative musicians. 1975 have a great indie sound that has bits of David Bowie inspiration, that you can clearly hear in The 1975 second studio album. But this young and very good band did just that, they got inspired and mashed it with their own clever and fun sound. That album is a lot of fun. It’s a happy album.
WOLFMOTHER – VICTORIOUS
AUSTRALIA| 4. ALBUM | BLUES ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Led Zeppelin
The moment when Australian band Wolfmother happened to materialized on the music scene still left me in such a mix of euphoria and excitement that I should maybe not even mention it. It was such a rough sound and mix of blues and progressive and psychedelic. It’s just joy listen to, it’s a music that pumps you but at the same time is really thought through, as any blues inspired music I think needs to be. It’s a brilliant blues-rock which is mixed with bits of hard in its music and heavy in its voice. Their 4th studio album Victorious really worths your attention!
M A R C H
KENDRICK LAMAR – UNTITLED UNMASTERED
USA| demo compilation | RAP/FUSION| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: KA
I can hardly go around the best albums and not mentioning the whole genre, that would not be fair, although I understand how that can happen, we can’t love it all. Kendrick Lamar is an interesting man, though, we can’t really put him in any box, and that is the whole point of this artist. Lamar is now I think very well known for his clever lyrics, which you sadly you don’t always hear as often as you should, especially in rap music. But his musicality combining jazz, soul, and funk in very mellow but spot on the way is in very aspect of the word – modern. If rap had a category like jazz does, the modern branch, Kendrick Lamar would be the very top of it.
THAO & THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN – A MAN ALIVE
USA| 4. ALBUM | FOLK ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Little Scream
While I am on the topic of very modern, unique if not little weird sound, I just have to mention American band Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. Now these guys classify as folk. Well. I say they should classify as Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. This band from California has very unique sound which, sure, may have come from folk with adding more and more of themselves, but it’s something very true to the band and that alone should be reason to give new band a chance. I say new, it’s actually 5th album 🙂 It is one of those bands tho, like Anthrax, you never really know who is in it. Makes it exciting in a way for listeners, least we can say.
AURORA – ALL MY DEMONS GREETING ME AS A FRIEND
NORWAY| 1. ALBUM | SYNTH-POP | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Agnes Obel
When something comes from the Scandinavia and is turned into a phenomenon, the quality is usually ensured. The second debutant on my list is 20 years old singer and songwriter from Norway that completely captured my heart. In her music is something we can, as in literature, distinguished as very Scandinavian. It’s a mix of electronic, indie and dreamy accompanied by a very beautiful voice telling very emotional and touching stories. That is what Aurora sounds like.
BIRDY – BEAUTIFUL LIES
UK| 3. ALBUM | INDIE | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Passenger
Turns out that March was quite an indie month for me. I did not get into, surprisingly Brittish, singer and songwriter Birdy until I’ve heard this album. Beautiful is just a beautiful piece of indie music. Birdy is a very talented little lady that combines I guess typically indie pop with bits of classical and electronic music, and it created very nice and cheery atmosphere on her 3rd studio album.
FUTURE OF THE LEFT – THE PEACE & TRUCE OF FUTURE OF OF THE LEFT
WALES | 5. ALBUM | NOISE-ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Japandroids
Yeah, let’s stay on the island and move just a wee little up to the Wales. There is a band combining a lot of anger with a nice, alternative and progressive rock. It’s a very angry music that instantly may remind you of Rage Against The Machine with their approach to both music and lyrics. It’s a very fine album you should definitely give a chance, especially if you are a sucker for noise rock and heavy bass line, which we all should be.
A P R I L
EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY – THE WILDERNESS
USA | 7. ALBUM | POST-ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Mono
Let’s not neglect American bands, especially with the new release from brilliant Explosions in the Sky. This post-rock band just hits the right note with every album they make. It’s such an emotional journey and joy listen to. Even if you don’t like this genre, which if you do not know is defined by being instrumental, you should give this album a chance. You may even recognize this bands pattern from some of the soundtracks they did.
THE HEAVY – HURT & THE MERCILESS
UK | 4. ALBUM | FUNK ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Cage The Elephant
I was so happy about the english band The Heavy new album for so long but then I was sad when their Prague show was canceled. Nevertheless, as usual, The Heavy delivered such a fun little indie rock. It’s a unique combination of rock, jazz, indie, funk and soul. It should even have its own genre. What The Heavy can do is to pump you really up to the point where you maybe little too energized for this world to handle. It’s a very clever and amazing band you need to check out beyond this new release.
BEN HARPER & THE INNOCENT CRIMINALS – CALL IT WHAT IT IS
UK | 13. ALBUM | BLUES/FOLK ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Jack Johnson
What American singer Ben Harper is to me is a lot more interesting Lenny Kravitz, if you allow me to say so. The sound is that of similarly pumped American rock music. But Ben Harpers adds that little something that transforms this hyped rock into something you enjoy, rather than something that could possibly annoy you. This latest album is a fun little release combining rock, blues, bits of soul and funk. I should mention, amazing live act.
THE BOXER REBELLION – OCEAN BY OCEAN
UK | 5. ALBUM | INDIE ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: We Are Scientists
I seriously doubt the (surprise) English band The Boxer Rebellion is an indie rock. If anything it could be some sort of indie new wave. When you look how amazingly active this band is, without you maybe noticing, it would be fitting. You may have heard The Boxer Rebellion without even knowing in so many TV, PC and Commercial work. This latest album is very chilling and if you are in the sort of ambient/new wave/indie (rock bits) mood, whatever that may mean for you, this album is the right choice.
PJ HARVEY – THE HOPE SIX DEMOLITION PROJECT
UK | 9. ALBUM | ALTERNATIVE ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Björk
And we are staying in the Great Britain because PJ Harvey released her 9th studio album. And as usually it’s a very nice fusion between rock, indie, bits of punk mood and jazz rock accompanied by typically urgent and storytelling lyrics. This time from PJ’s trip to the Washington DC. Is there more to say? PJ Harvey is very enjoyable and thorough artist that I love coming back to and hearing new stuff from.
M A Y
BAND OF SKULLS – BY DEFAULT
UK | 4. ALBUM | BLUES ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: The Dead Weather
And still staying in England, I got to mention the new album by one of my favorites, Band of Skulls. This band is just so much fun. It’s very energetic and playful mix of rock, blues and soul music and I think you are going to love it if you don’t already. Band Of Skulls is very playful in every aspect of their music be it playing with the music and it’s volume or the second or group voices. It’s just brilliantly fun rock music you got to listen to.
RADIOHEAD – A MOON SHAPED POOL
UK | 9. ALBUM | ART ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Interpol
I can’t really go around without mentioning the new Radiohead we’ve been waiting for so long. This band was something I always needed to be in mood for, but this new album is much easier listen for me than the previous work. It, of course, stays very spheric and emotional, not to mention playful. In a way, this Radiohead album feels so beautifully accomplished and it actually became my favorite. Over the past months when I listened to I went from apathy to absolute love for this piece of music. That is a form of character development I would say. It’s brilliant, go listen to it.
CLARE MAGUIRE – STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED
UK | 2. ALBUM | ELECTROPOP/SOUL | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Alex Clare
I am having a bit of a hard time with May. Five years between records can be a very long time and you can really hear the change in Clare Maguire. This British singer released brilliant and interesting debut back in 2011 I got into thanks to her fellow colleagues “Hurts”, Maguire opened for some of the band’s shows. Her second album released this May had less impact on me compare to the debut, but Clare Maguire made high-quality pop music and is worth the listen.
LEYLA McCALLA – A DAY FOR FOR THE HUNTER, A DAY FOR THE PRAY
USA | 2. ALBUM | JAZZ | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Yael Naïm
I feel like it has been at least 10 years since the sound that Leyla McCalla has, you know that Norah Jones, Amy MacDonald or Yael Naïm and even if so, Leyla is quite special. Her music is a fusion of folk and classical, because Leyla McCalla is amazing and skilled cello player, and that is a beautiful instrument fitting into her music so beautifully. This album is such a pleasant listen and the bonus is very good lyrics.
THE DUKE SPIRIT – KIN
UK | 4. ALBUM | INDIE ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Mark Lanegan
Since this little blog is mine, I will mention one of my favorite bands. It’s weird but they still feel like a new band to me. Duke Spirit got to play in Prague with their debut Bruiser in 2011 and I had no idea who they were or what they played but the tickets were cheap, the evening was free and I went. What a beautiful rock music, not your typical sound. It’s this atmospheric kind of rock music but the debut album was quite brilliant. This new record proves that any band can evolve and connect with other genres. The Duke Spirit still have their typical sound, but they did move to slightly different, maybe even more electronic based, sound. Do not be fooled, though, it is a rock band.
J U N E
THE TEMPER TRAP – THICK AS THIEVES
AUSTRALIA | 3. ALBUM | INDIE ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Bloc Party
Once you hear The Temper Trap you will never forget their very own sound, especially thanks to the band’s singer Dougy Mandagi, his voice is just beautifully high-pitched but very rich. This Australian band captured me with their very first album. It’s very clever indie rock sound that has no standing point. They are clever with all, music, lyrics, vocals and presentation. You got to try this band out.
RIVAL SONS – HOLLOW BONES
USA | 5. ALBUM | BLUES ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Blues Pills
Moving to the USA, I will happily write that Rival Sons are one of the best rock bands out there. I got all their albums and not one has disappointed me. Rival Sons are very energetic rock music with a bit of hard rock and blues-rock. What else can one say then that this is very good rock music?
KONGOS – EGOMANIAC
SOUTH AFRICA | 3. ALBUM | ALTERNATIVE ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: The Struts
Remember that huge hit “Come With Me Now” ? Well, this is the band behind it. Members of Kongos come originally from South Africa but their music career comes from within the USA, but, it’s so diverse and that is what makes them stand out. It is a rock/blues music, but that accordion, those sort of choirs and that playful almost blues-ish guitar, that is something you do not often hear in rock music, especially the one coming from the USA. But then again, they have that south-African playfulness in there, don’t they. Great album, great band.
VOLBEAT – SEAL THE DEAL & LET’S BOOGIE
DENMARK | 6. ALBUM | HARD ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Killswitch Engage
If there is any heavy metal band that can “boogie” it must be Volbeat. I don’t always heavy metal but when I do, where else to go, then to Scandinavia? Volbeat is just so unique which makes me really love them. It’s not the typical heavy metal sound and that is very important at least for me. They are very unique, Michael Poulsen is a singer whose voice you do not forget. And even on their 6th album, Volbeat stay just brilliant.
SWANS – THE GLOWING MAN
UK | 14. ALBUM | EXPERIMENTAL | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Sonic Youth
Music is a form of art, and not many are developing that very essence of word art in their releases as American band Swans. They are often described as experimental and it very much suits them. You rarely find less than 10 minutes track from this band, but it’s time worth the song. Swans tell such a complex story not on the full album, but within every song. It makes them truly a spectacular band of today. And The Glowing Man really is an amazingly diverse and thorough album.
J U L Y
MICHAEL KIWANUKA – LOVE & HATE
UK | 2. ALBUM | SOUL/INDIE | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Gregory Porter
When I’ve first heard Michael Kiwanuka, British singer and songwriter I was charmed from the very first moment. This young musician is an absolute joy, his debut album “Home Again” should not go by unnoticed by you. It’s an emotional and beautiful piece of fusion between Motown type of soul and modern sound. In the case of Michael Kiwanuka, it is very hard to say his is a London based musician, his music is truly brilliant. In my eyes the debate is much better than this follow-up record, but still an amazing job.
SWITCHFOOT – WHERE THE LIGHT SHINES THROUGH
USA | 10. ALBUM | ROCK | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Jars Of Clay
It feels like there is no proper pop-rock on this list yet. So I think we should start with American band Switchfoot. This new album is their 10th record and I must say it is a very good record. Being released at the top of summer months it had very positive feeling but not in an annoying way, rather the very enjoyable way that energizes your day. If you don’t know the work of this band, there is no shame at all getting to know them with their most recent and very good record!
SOFI TUKKER – SOFT ANIMALS (EP)
USA | ? | HOUSE/ELECTRONIC | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Oyster Kids
Now, I know Soft Animals is technically EP, but it just so refreshing to hear something original in electronic and upbeat music that I would really love to have this piece on the list. Sofi Tukker is a name of New York-base musicians Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern and their first glimpses through this EP are ever so promising. It has such a nice level of weirdness and some nice instrumental parts that for me personally are the only reason I ever come to House music, as Sofi Tukker are categories. I disagree, though.
SLOW DAKOTA – THE ASCENSION OF SLOW DAKOTA
USA | ? | EXPERIMENTAL INDIE | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: The Ritz Club
Before I start I have mentioned, this album and this artist are not for an easy-listening. Slow Dakota also known as PJ Sauerteig will remind you of Patti Smiths concert if you’ve ever been. Not by the style of music, they actually could not be more different, but more of by his approach. This very interesting and by feeling the very personal album is a combination of music and poetry, something Patti Smith loves very much and something she is capable of delivering with an intense power, Slow Dakota is very similar to that. His music is a combination of poetry, electronic, dark pop, classical and folk. I would recommend listening to this album when you really can pay it the deserved attention.
FATES WARNING – THEORIES OF FLIGHT
ENGLAND/USA | 12. ALBUM | PROGRESSIVE METAL | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Treshold
It’s been 12 years since this partly Brittish and partly American band recorded in four members. They came back to it almost symbolically on their 12th studio record. There is not much to say on Theories of Flight since there is not really an album I would not like from this progressive metal band. It’s just such a joy to listen to any Fates Warning album and this last one is no difference.
A U G U S T
GLASS ANIMALS – HOW TO BE A HUMAN BEING
ENGLAND | 2. ALBUM | PSYCHEDELIC POP | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: alt-J
Glass Animals feel like such an underrated band. I have fallen in love with their unique sound at the very first listen of their debut album. This second records, though, is maybe not better but definitely more ballsy. It would be, the shyness over debut is behind them. They are more experienced, more curious and more determined. And you can clearly hear it on this second album. This album feels very connected, one song with another. It’s very playful, emotional but also experimental. Together the album is a great experience to have from music, but the songs work quite alone standing alone as well, maybe less intense though in the connection to the whole concept. I personally love this album and you should give it a chance, I promise It’ll grow on you.
RUSSIAN CIRCLES – GUIDANCE
USA/CHICAGO| 6.ALBUM| POST-ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF : God Is An Astronaut
Hard to believe that this is the 6th album, feels like I’ve found this band yesterday. As maybe you’ve figured, I truly love and appreciate post-rock genre. It is rather underrated. You truly need to create an amazing atmosphere in order for rock instrumental music to keep you at bay, paying attention. Not t mention it’s a booming genre with enormous competition. But Russian Circles are on the top of it. And this last album is such so easy and pleasant to listen to.
BLACK FOXXES – I AM NOT WELL
ENGLAND/EXETER| 1.ALBUM| ALT. ROCK| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Biffy Clyro
Speaking of brilliant debut albums, British Black Foxxes are an interesting new band that has been around on Bandcamp for quite a while. Now the band got signed up so they can truly start their journey. The debut album I am not Well is a great alternative rock mash with indie. It’s playful, energetic and honestly, quite fun. Worths your attention.
KA – HONOR KILLED THE SAMURAI
USA/BROOKLYN|3. ALBUM| RAP| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Roc Marciano
As I said before, I am not into the rap music unless it has a lot to offer. May sound shallow, but we all got out favorite genres. American artist released quite short new album. With its only 36 minutes Honor Killed The Samurai has it delivered more than so many rap album over the course of the year. It’s a brilliant and interesting album you should give a chance to even if, as me, you don’t always look this genre up and listen to the thin line between the Samurai philosophy and Ka’s life view.
VOMITFACE – HOORAY FOR ME
USA/NEW YORK|1.ALBUM|NOISE,GRUNGE| ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: NIRVANA
Granted, this band is probably not for everyone. This is the band’s first full album following the previous EP and it’s a mash of couple instruments based modern genres, like noise or sludge-pop, but the main sound you’ll catch is very clear grunge music. This album is even shorter than previously mentioned KA, Vomitface debut album is only 29 minutes long but it’s something with very raw power and great music.
S E P T E M B E R
NICK CAVE – A SKELETON TREE
AUSTRALIA|16.ALBUM| IT’S A NICK CAVE GENRE|✖ ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: MARK LANEGAN
I am a big fan of Nick Cave and his music, projects, scripts. But even somebody who is not Nick Caves fan can feel the pressing emotions and chilling atmosphere of his latest album. As a concept album and as an experimental music, this whole record is no less than a masterpiece. The events of Cave’s son tragic passing are deeply reflected in the whole album and you can feel the very horror and the very need for universal power. In Nick Cave’s album, you can feel, how artists reflect their deepest emotions and memories into their music which in Cave’s case was always frightfully true and honest. There is honor in Nick Caves music that is often absent in the world.
SNOWBLINK – RETURNING CURRENT
CANADA/ONTARIO|?| INDIE POP| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: THE XX
Snowblink is such an interesting Canadian project I’ve stumbled across just recently. The duo consists of Daniela Gesundheit and Dan Goldman. Daniela’s voice is such a beauty, her voice is very haunting but quite subtle. In the soft pop/electronic indie, it works just perfectly. Returning Current is a very pleasant album which I do not know if it’s first full album, or in fact has some other album. All I can say is that it deserves your attention.
SHABAKA AND THE ANCESTORS – WISDOM OF ELDERS
UK/LONDON| 1. ALBUM | JAZZ| ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Modern Jazz
Shabaka And The Ancestors are such a unique project, besides there is no true jazz on this list yet. Which I find shameful. Although this English band has a feeling to the tradition of jazz so typical to Miles Davis or John Coltrane, they also have that modern bit fitted right in. It’s a pretty little fusion between modern and classic jazz with some bits of soul, very bass oriented sound. It’s an interesting album especially for lovers of experimental jazz.
ANGEL OLSEN – MY WOMAN
USA/ST.LOUIS | 3. ALBUM | INDIE | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: SHARON VAN ETTEN
Angel Olsen is such a talented musician, her indie is no plain music but very beautiful thought through a mix of pop, indie, folk and bits of dark ambient. Her recent album is a very beautiful piece of song making that is so easy to listen to and perhaps even without thinking of it, the right fit for the very beginning of autumn.
LENNY – HEARTS
CZECH REPUBLIC | 1. ALBUM | POP | ✖ ✖ ✖ ✖
FOR FANS OF: Jessie J
We are only two weeks in September so I am going to go home for the final album of this list. Lenny is a young Czech artist who has music deep in her core and despite being from the Czech Republic she has very modern pop/indie sound, mainly because of inspiration and studying in London. Her album follows two very popular and successful EP albums and is very pleasant modern and cheery pop music.
So, that’s it. I hope ou got to know some new artist and maybe found some new music that makes you feel whatever you wish to feel. I’ll be happy to hear your suggestions.
Note that those artist and album are my points of view only, can’t know them all :).
Have a pleasant Autumn, hopefully, it’ll be rainy and cold.
