Unfortunately, I have been quite ill and could not come with any article in the last three weeks. So here is the 4th week and I’ll try to keep up with the rest as soon as I can 🙂
WEEK #4
The fourth week was probably the most interesting so far, there is some amazing new bands and artist in the rock music, not to mention plenty re-issues as it happens, but also an amazing new album from folk star Eliza Carthy.
BLACK PAISLEY – LATE BOOMER
| Sweden | 1. album | Melodic Rock
| BUY | LISTEN | WEBSITE
Black Paisley are a brand new band from Sweden which, as melodic rock goes, offers it all. It’s guitars driven and takes on that edge between melodic rock and blues tunes. Black Paisley, band fronted by Stefan Blomqvist will get your attention especially if you love some classic rock. This band got not only the sound but also the mandatory ballads and lyrics based on life and love.
STEVEN J VERTUN – GHOST, SHADOW & SUN
| USA | 1. ALBUM | ROCK
| BUY | LISTEN | WEBSITE |
Staying withing the genre with more blues rock influence, I’d like to mention Steven J Vertun and his debut album: Ghost, Shadow & Sun. This album is very pleasant listening to, it feels like a very personal piece from a musician who has been making and loving music since he can remember and all the years playing you can truly hear in this album. Just as the Black Paisley, here also you can here strong appreciation of the classic rock artists and albums.
ELIZA CARTHY & THE WAYWARD BAND – BIG MACHINE
UK | 11. ALBUM (SOLO) | FOLK
BUY | LISTEN | WEBSITE
Moving onto the folk, genre, that people think rarely offers something new. These days that is a big pile of rubbish. Folk can explore different roots and connection to different genres. A great example is an English folk singer and musician Eliza Carthy. This lady used to make music with Nancy Kerr and is no newbie to the folk music. Her solo career is proving enough. The newest record will probably be my favorite, though. It’s such an interesting mix of so many genres. There is so much stuff happening on this album that you almost not know what to concentrate on, yet is combines so well together. On this album, Eliza had help from amazing The Wayward Band. It’s not just folk rock, it’s also cabaret feeling, jazz tunes and even bits of trip-hop.
ELBOW – THE LITTLE FICTIONS
UK| 7. ALBUM | ALT ROCK
BUY | LISTEN | WEBSITE
I certainly cannot go by this week without mentioning the newest album by my favorite band, the Elbow. Believe it of not, but “Little Fictions” is 7th studio album by this British alternative rock band. And yet again, it’s quite a listen. What I love about this band is their ability to reflect on the time we live in not only in their stories but also in the direction to which they are taking their sound with every new record. “Little Fictions” are not as melancholic as previous “The Take Off And Landing of Everything”, this time, the melancholy still sits but mixes with juicy tunes thanks to the collaboration with The Hallé, symphony orchestra and choir from English Manchester.
